Sorry, it’s been a while, but I’ve been busy and got lots to catch up on! I have a job, well 2 to be exact, but one is part-time. Until the 31st of December I am working at a Christmas light show called ‘In Search of Christmas Spirit’, and then after Christmas, I start full-time at the Banff Centre as a bartender and server. This second job is exciting as it comes with accommodation, so I can finally move out of the hostel, where I have been since arriving in Banff.
Alongside the job hunting, I’ve seen a few more places all frozen over, such as Lake Louise as well as a bit of Kananaskis National Reserve, also I finally got my skis on and headed up to Sunshine Village, one of the three ski resorts here in the Banff area. On the days when I haven’t been skiing, I have tried ice skating and going on a few more walks around town.
The cold weather really set in this week as we hit -35 during the night with temperatures barely getting above -26 during the day, so it’s been a bit of an inside week. Currently, I’m sat in the Wild Flower Bakery, which has become my favourite coffee shop here in Banff, determined to be able to go in and ask for ‘the usual’.
With Christmas on Sunday, I have made a few plans with people at the hostel, as well as having lunch with Bobbie and Sam at their new apartment. Still, I am going to be working Christmas Eve and Christmas Day before heading over to Calgary on Boxing Day to see the Stewart clan! It should be a good substitute for the normal big family Christmas, but very excited to have a white Christmas at last! I haven’t been able to source a Christmas jumper unfortunately but I might pick up a Santa hat whilst in Canmore tomorrow.
Wishing everyone back home and wherever you’re reading this a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
